Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - The Bakersfield Blaze pitching staff slowed the Modesto Nuts' bats in the Nuts' 6-2 loss at John Thurman Field on Tuesday night.
Blaze (4-8) starter Tyler Herb (1-0) was sharp striking out 10 Nuts (5-7) over 5.2 innings. Wes Rogers cracked a lead-off triple in the first and scored on Forrest Wall's RBI groundout, but Herb locked in after that. At one point, Herb retired nine in a row including five straight strikeouts in the third and fourth innings.
Ryan Horstman closed the door on Modesto with a perfect eighth and ninth inning.
Jesus Tinoco (L, 0-2) started strong but struggled late as the Blaze scored five unanswered runs against the Nuts' starter. Tinoco allowed a RBI double in third. In the fifth, the Blaze touched him up for four hits including two RBI doubles to knock the righty out of the game.
The rubber match of this three-game series starts at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday night. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
