Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA - 66er (2-10) bats were silenced by great pitching and solid defense en route to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the High Desert Mavericks (8-4) Monday night. Offensively High Desert was paced by a pair of two run home runs hit by Tripp Martin and David Lyons respectively.
The Mavericks got on the board first in the second inning. With one out in the inning, Jose Trevino singled on a line drive to Tim Arakawa. Then on a Justin Anderson 1-0 pitch, Tripp Martin cleared the left center field wall to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.
Inland Empire got into the run column in the bottom of the third. Ayendy Perez would lead off the frame with a bunt single. After stealing second base, Perez advanced to third base on a David Fletcher single to right field. Perez would then cross home on an Arakawa ground out one batter later. Mavericks starting pitcher Luis Ortiz would avoid any farther damage by striking out 2015 Angels first round pick Taylor Ward to end the inning.
A David Lyons home run in the fourth inning capped the scoring for either side as both bullpens were dominant allowing zero runs in a combined 7.2 innings of work. David Perez (2-0) picked up the win for the Mavs while John Fasola earned his third save of the season.
The series continues Tuesday Night at 7:05pm. Alex Klonowski (0-2 5.73 ERA) looks for his first win of the season when he squares off against High Desert's Yolander Mendez (1-0 4.50 ERA). First pitch time is 7:05pm and can be heard live on KPRO 1570 AM or through the 66ers radio network on 66ers.com.
