Saskatoon Blades News Release
SASKATOON, SK - Kyle Crnkovic extended his point streak to eight games, Tristen Robins netted his league-leading 15th point, and the Saskatoon Blades extended their win streak to four games as they defeated the Regina Pats 4-1 Sunday afternoon at SaskTel Centre.
Forwards Brandon Lisowsky, Moritz Elias and Egor Sidorov also scored to help improve the Blades record to 6-1-1-0, scoring at least four goals in each of the last seven contests.
Blades netminder Nolan Maier stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced from the Pats who fall to 2-7-0-0 on the year. Regina has now lost seven straight.
Cole Dubinsky scored the lone marker for the Pats, which tied the game in the first period.
It's the second straight victory for the Blades over Connor Bedard and the Pats, concluding a home-and-home series with a combined nine goals.
1:26 into the opening frame, Brandon Lisowsky's deflection hit the post and rebounded behind Pats goaltender Matthew Kieper, but after the puck bounced a few times it somehow stayed out.
Three minutes later, the Pats were caught with too many men and Blades forward Egor Sidorov netted his fourth of the season to give the Blades a 1-0 lead, sending the 4165 in attendance into a frenzy. The Belarusian forward stretches his goal-scoring streak to four games, and also awarded the fans $1 off beer for the goal.
Regina squared the game ahead of the first intermission after a sneaky shot slid through the wickets of Nolan Maier. Dubinsky was credited for the goal - the second straight game he's found a way to beat the veteran netminder.
A scrum at the end of the first resulted in coincidental penalties for both teams to start the second, and enough time and space for Trevor Wong and Brandon Lisowsky to double-down and regain the lead.
Wong dangled his way through a Pats defender in tight and found a trailing Lisowsky who went top shelf on Kieper to put the Blades back on top 2-1.
10 minutes later, alternate captain Tristen Robins potted his fourth goal and league-leading 15th point to extend the Blades lead 3-1 after two periods.
At the end of the second, both goalies stayed busy as Maier stopped 16 of 17 while Kieper turned aside 17 of 20 shots.
Saskatoon scored inside the first five minutes of each period, including a hot start to the final frame. Just 1:41 into the third, forward Jayden Wiens found Moritz Elias down low who scored his second of the year from a sharp angle to put the Blades up 4-1.
Discipline was hard to come by for Regina, who was on the penalty kill a total of nine times through the game. Saskatoon struck once on nine opportunities and held the Pats scoreless on three penalty kills.
The Blades will now get set to host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday, the second game of a two-game homestand.
