Pats Fall to Blades 4-1

Saskatoon, Sask. - The Regina Pats lost 4-1 to the Saskatoon Blades on Sunday afternoon. It was their seventh consecutive loss.

The Pats are now 2-7-0 on the season, while the Blades improve to 6-1-1.

The Regiment struggled with discipline in this game, taking 28 minutes in penalties and giving the Blades nine power plays.

The Regiment's lone goal came from Cole Dubinsky, who increased his point-streak to an impressive eight games.

The Pats have a home-and-home with the Swift Current Broncos next on the schedule on Friday and Saturday.

THE GOALS

1st Period

SAS 1-0 @4:58 - Egor Sidorov spun a fired a shot from the slot past Matthew Kieper on the power play, moments after the puck went way up into the air and caused some crease havoc.

REG 1-1 @11:42 - Cole Dubinsky whacked in a loose puck from the slot area after Logan Nijhoff back-handed a shot towards the net.

2nd Period

SAS 2-1 @1:43 - Trevor Wong entered the zone down the left side with speed and got fancy, drawing multiple Pats to him, and was able to backhand a pass to a wide open Brandon Lisowsky, who made no mistake to make it a 2-1 game.

SAS 3-1 @11:24 - Tristen Robins fired a wicked shot from the top of the right circle that went bar down.

3rd Period

SAS 4-1 @1:41 - Jayden Wiens flew down the left wing side into the zone and dropped a pass for Moritz Elias, who let a wrist shot go from the goal line that went right to the top corner.

FINAL: Pats 1 | Blades 4

POWER PLAYS

Regina: 0-for-3

Saskatoon: 1-for-9

GOALTENDING BATTLE

Regina: Matthew Kieper stopped 22 of 26 on the afternoon.

Saskatoon: Nolan Maier allowed just one goal on 28 shots.

STAT OF THE NIGHT

Cole Dubinsky extended his point streak to eight games with his fourth goal of the season in the first period. After not playing in the opening game, Dubinsky has now recorded in every single game he's dressed in this year.

Dubinsky's goal was his 20th career tally, while he now has 56 career points in 139 games.

THEY SAID IT

Assistant coach Ken Schneider on the Post-Game Show on 620 CKRM: "For the first part of the game, we were a bit tentative. I don't think we made the hockey plays that we wanted to make probably in the first 40 minutes of the game, to be quite honest with you. The third period we were pretty pleased with our effort. We didn't give up and it would have been pretty easy to mail it in that last 20 minutes...It's difficult to have to defend [shorthanded] because typically you're using your better players that you use on your own power play to kill penalties as well. It wears on you. It takes [a lot] of energy. There were a couple penalties in particular that I thought just were not good penalties to take. It's one thing to be physical, but those penalties - when you get a stick right across a guy's back - you're going to take a penalty every time."

BIG HIGHLIGHT

Adam McNutt laid the boom on Hayden Smith in the neutral zone in the third period.
