Blades Extend Road Winning Streak to Nine Games
December 1, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades opened up their 5 game BC swing with a dominating 7-3 victory over the Prince George Cougars.
The Cougars would open up the scoring in the first period on a goal from defenseman Dallas Jackson. The Blades would respond 13 seconds later when Gaelan Patterson broke down the left wing and threw a shot on net that would fool Cougars goaltender Joe Caligiuri. The flood gates would open shortly after as the Blades would get goals from Adam Chorneyko, Milan Kytnar, Darian Dziurzynski, and Walker Wintoneak to close out a wild first period.
The second period was less eventful as the only goal would be a power play marker from Cougars forward Justin Maylan. Heading into the third period the Blades led 5-2.
Wintoneak would get his second goal of the night, 8th of the season, on a power play at the 8:08 mark of the third period. Maylan would reply with his second of the night before Derek Hulak put the game out of reach with the Blades 2nd power play goal of the game. The Blades power play unit, which has been struggling this season, went 2 for 6, while the penalty kill was 6 for 7.
Braden Holtby made 36 saves on 39 shots to pick up his 16th win of the season. The win improves the Blades overall record to 19-7-2, leaving them in 1st place in the Eastern Division with 40 points, 4 points ahead of the 2nd place Regina Pats.
The Blades continue their tour through British Columbia on Tuesday as they visit the Kamloops Blazers. Puck drops at 9PM Saskatchewan time.
