Blades End 2009 With A 2-1 Victory Over Silvertips

The Saskatoon Blades slipped past the Everett Silvertips 2-1 on New Year's Eve night to earn their third consecutive victory.

Darian Dziurzynski (Lloydminster, AB) had both goals for the Blades, who have started their six-game road trip with two straight wins.

Saskatoon - 1st - Dziurzynski (Jeremy Boyer) 0:25 The third-year forward opened the scoring for the Blades with his second of the season on a mad scramble in front of the Silvertips' net.

Everett - 2nd - Shane Harper (Chris de la Lande, Rasmus Rissanen) 9:11 pp Harper tied the game with the man advantage after taking a cross-crease pass from de la Lande at the side of the Blades' net for his 22nd of the season.

Saskatoon - 2nd - Dziurzynski (Sam Klassen, Boyer) 10:34 pp Dziurzynski put the Blades back on top in similar fashion to the first goal in grabbing a loose puck in front of the Silvertips' net and depositing it to the back of the net for the game winner.

Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) made 19 saves in the Blades' net to earn the victory between the pipes. Kent Simpson turned aside 32 of 34 shots in the Everett net in a losing cause.

Final score Saskatoon Blades 2, Everett Silvertips 1.

With the victory, the Blades go to 26-7-1-3 for 56 points on the season and pull into a tie with the Calgary Hitmen for first overall in the WHL's Eastern Conference. The Silvertips, meanwhile, fall to 19-16-2-1 for 41 points and sit in sixth place in the Western Conference.

The Blades now get one day off before continuing their road trip in Portland against the Winterhawks on Saturday. Game time is 9:00 pm. As with every other game on the trip, Les Lazaruk has the call on 92.9 The Bull. The game can be also purchased on WHL WebTV.
