Florida Everblades News Release
Kalamazoo, MI-After losing to Kalamazoo in a shoot out the night before the Florida Everblades came out blazing. The Everblades combined for five goals and out shot the Kalamazoo Wings 31-19. Goaltender Barry Brust recorded the win and improved to 3-1-1.
Jacob Micflikier had an immediate impact upon his return to the Florida Everblades from the Albany River Rats of the AHL. With only 2:48 elapsed in the first Micflikier shot one home off of Ross Carlson and Peter Metcalf to give the 'Blades an early one goal lead. Less than 4 minutes later team captain Kevin Baker gave Florida an insurance marker; Harrison Reed and AJ Thelen were credited with the assists. Fists flew at 7:49 with Steve McJannet (FLA) and Bryan Jurynec (KAL) both being awarded five minute penalties for fighting. The teams played at even strength until Ben Simon was whistled for a cross check. The Everblades went on the power play and Ross Carlson, with help from Peter Metcalf and Jacob Micflikier, struck gold to up the lead to 3-0.
The second stanza began with Florida taking four penalties. The penalty kill unit went to work and held the league leading Kalamazoo Wings to 0 on 7 chances. Late in the period Kalamazoo found itself in trouble with two players in the penalty box. Harrison Reed took advantage and scored a power-play goal to give the 'Blades a four goal lead heading into the third.
The 'Blades continued to dominate as Harrison Reed scored his sixth goal in four games off of a pass from Jacob Micflikier and Peter Metcalf to give the Everblades a five goal lead. The lead was shortened to four when former Everblade Andrew Fournier beat net minder Barry Brust to get Kalamazoo on the board with 14:14 remaining in the period. Kalamazoo scored again at the halfway mark off the stick of Tommy Lange with assists from Ben Simon and Ryan McGinnis to make the score 5-2. The rest of the period was scoreless and the Florida Everblades split the series with the Wings.
