Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 7, 2010) - The Winston-Salem Dash today announced the return of catcher Chase Blackwood and relief pitcher Charlis Burdie (pronounced shar-LEES BUR-dee-ay) from AA Birmingham. In a corresponding roster move, infielder Jeff Tezak has been assigned to extended spring training.
Blackwood spent two weeks on the Dash roster in April but did not play in a game. He appeared in two games with Birmingham, going 0 for 3 with two strikeouts.
The Chicago White Sox signed Blackwood after he went undrafted in 2009. In his first professional season, the Taft, California native played 24 games for Advanced Rookie Great Falls, hitting .198 with three home runs and seven RBI.
Blackwood attended Taft (CA) College before transferring to Valdosta (GA) State. While playing at Valdosta State, Blackwood was named to the All-Gulf South Conference second team in 2008. That year, he was also recognized as the nation's top defensive catcher after being named to the Rawlings Gold Glove team.
Burdie was on the opening day roster for the Dash and was promoted to the Barons on April 27. He made two appearances with Birmingham, pitching two scoreless innings with two hits and two walks allowed to go along with two strikeouts. Burdie was 0-1 in six games with the Dash, posting a 2.35 ERA. His .087 opponents' batting average led Carolina League relievers at the time of his promotion.
Tezak spent nine games on the Dash's active roster in two separate stints, but did not appear in any games.
The Dash roster is now full at 25 players, which is the Carolina League limit.
Winston-Salem opens a three-game home stand against the Salem Red Sox tonight at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash's Charlie Leesman (4-1, 4.56) opposes Salem's Fabian Williamson (3-1, 2.52) in a 7 p.m. start.
The Winston-Salem Dash is the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For more information, please visit www.wsdash.com .
