West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The WV Black Bears defeated the Batavia Muckdogs 4-1 in walk-off fashion with a 3-run homerun in the bottom of the ninth!
Starting P Steven Brault started the defense for the Bears off strong with five strikeouts and only allowing only one hit in four innings. RF Hunter Owen stepped up for the Bears with an RBI to tie the game in the fifth. But in the end, it was C Kevin Krauss would win the ballgame for the Black Bears with a 3-run homerun.
The game was scoreless through five innings until a missed ball by Black Bears catcher, C Kevin Krause, put Muckdogs' SS Javier Lopez on first. A single and a fielder's choice out would allow Lopez to score giving the Muckdogs 1-0 lead.
With the Black Bears down by one in the bottom of the seventh, LF Clark Eagan and RF Hunter Owen combined their efforts to put the Black Bears on the board and even the score 1-1.
The Black Bears held off the 1-1 threat in the top of the ninth when DH Jordan George hit a shot in the gap placing him in scoring position. C Kevin Krauss followed up with an out of the park 3-run homer that would give the Black Bears the 4-1 win.
The Black Bears will go for the sweep in game three versus the Muckdogs tomorrow, Tuesday, June 21 at 7:05pm. Tuesday will be the New York-Penn League Championship replica ring giveaway for the first 1,000 fans in attendance.
