Hickory Crawdads News Release

Hickory, NC-The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Delmarva Shorebirds, 3-2, Tuesday afternoon at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Starters Jared Hughes and Pedro Beato sailed through the first 3 innings. But, both clubs scored in the 4th. Delmarva got an RBI groundout from David Cash that allowed Danny Figueroa to score from third. Hickory responded with an RBI double from Cameron Blair that brought Jonel Pacheco home from 2nd. The score remained 1-1 until the 7th, after both starting pitchers departed.

Stephen MacFarland entered out of the Crawdads' pen. Bobby Andrews singled in Stu Musselwhite from 2nd to give the Shorebirds a 2-1 edge. Then, the inning appeared to be completed as Stephen MacFarland caught Danny Figueroa looking at strike 3 on the outside corner. However, C John Walk dropped the 3rd strike (thinking the inning was over), rolled it out to the mound, (MacFarland already was off the hill) and that gave Pedro Florimon an easy path to the plate and Figueroa dashed over safely to 1st.

That proved to be the difference as the Crawdads scored a run on an RBI sac-fly to left that allowed Eddie Prasch to score from 3rd. However, that would be it for the scoring. Hickory put the tying run (Kris Watts) at 3rd in the 9th with 1-out, but Presley popped out and Bobby Kingsbury was called out on strikes to end the game.

Blake Owen (2-2) earned the win for Delmarva out of the pen. Stephen MacFarland (0-1) took his first loss. Luis Lebron picked up his 2nd save.

Hickory tries to bounce back tomorrow night. RHP Mike Crotta toes the rubber for the Dads'. He'll face RHP Jeff Moore. The first pitch will be at 6:30pm at L.P. Frans Stadium.
