Bisons Promote Randy Newsom to Herd

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that RHP Randy Newsom has been promoted to the team from Double-A Akron. Newsom will be in uniform tonight as the Herd faces the Rochester Red Wings at Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.).

Newsom, 26, will be making his Triple-A debut with the Bisons. He has spent the entire season with the Akron Aeros with a 5-0 record, a 1.75ERA and 24 saves in 36 appearances (36.0IP, 29H, 9R, 7ER, 22BB, 23K). His 24 saves have come in 26 opportunities, good for a 92% success rate. Opponents are hitting just .228 (29-127) off him with only one home run.

Newsom was acquired as the player to be named later in the in a seven-player trade with the Boston Red Sox that brought Andy Marte and Kelly Shoppach to Cleveland and sent Coco Crisp to the Red Sox.
