Norfolk Tides News Release

Oscar Salazar and Jeff Fiorentino both homered in a six-run first inning, helping the Tides cruise to an 8-4 win over the Richmond Braves Wednesday night from Harbor Park.

The Tides sent 10 men to the plate in the decisive first frame, as they collected seven hits off of Braves starter Damian Moss (3-8). After a two-out error by Moss on a grounder by Scott Moore prolonged the inning, Salazar clubbed a two-run homer to give the Tides a 2-0 lead. Three straight singles by Luis Terrero, Mike Costanzo and Omir Santos plated another run, and Fiorentino followed by blasting a long drive into right field for a three-run shot to put Norfolk up 6-0.

Norfolk added two more runs in the second inning, as Moss sandwiched a throwing error on a pickoff around five walks to give the Tides an 8-1 advantage.

Santos, who was named to the IL All-Star team earlier Wednesday, helped pace Norfolk's offense with two hits and an RBI. Costanzo and Chris Roberson also added two hits apiece.

Tides starter Hayden Penn pitched well in his third start since coming off the disabled list on June 22. Penn yielded two runs on three hits in four innings, walking one and striking out three. The 23-year-old right-hander tossed 65 pitches, 37 of which were strikes.

Roberto Novoa (2-2) earned the win for Norfolk, as he allowed two runs in three innings of relief.

The Tides conclude their eight-game homestand on Thursday night, with a 7:15 contest against the Braves. Craig Anderson (1-6, 8.83) will take the mound for Norfolk, while Richmond is scheduled to counter with right-hander Brian Lawrence (0-2, 8.85).

Thursday will also feature a postgame fireworks show, presented by Capital Group.
