Louisville Bats News Release

Louisville, KY - With the score tied at three headed into the seventh inning, the Indianapolis Indians scored five runs, all with two outs, propelling them to an 8-5 victory over the Louisville Bats at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Bats drew first blood in a big way in the fourth inning, as Aaron Herr blasted a three-run homer to left field that scored Chris Dickerson and Rob Mackowiak. For Herr, who was acquired by Louisville from Buffalo on June 23rd, it was his second home run of the season with the Bats and 11th overall.

A mistake-filled fifth inning by the Bats, however, helped the Indians tie the game at three. After a Nyjer Morgan RBI single made it a 3-1 game, a fielding error by Herr loaded the bases, followed by starting pitcher Homer Bailey walking home two more runs before he could get out of the inning.

With the game still tied at three, Indianapolis exploded for five runs off Louisville's Matt Belisle (4-1, 6.95) in the top of the seventh, making it an 8-3 contest and handing Belisle the loss. All five runs were scored with two outs. Five walks in the inning, along with two-run singles by Josh Wilson and Carlos Maldonado, spelled doom for the Bats and put the game a bit too far out of reach.

Although not a factor in the decision, Bailey (4-6, 4.31) made a quality start for the Bats, going six innings, giving up five hits and three runs, although only two were earned. He also walked four and fanned seven. Juan Perez (1-0, 0.00) earned the win for Indianapolis.

Chris Dickerson helped Louisville close the gap to 8-5 in the eighth inning when he belted his fifth home run of the season, a two-run job that scored Ryan Hanigan. The Bats, however, couldn't produce any more offense on the night, although the team did have several chances. In five separate innings, Louisville had runners in scoring position, but could not plate any runs. Dickerson, Mackowiak, and Michael Griffin all had two hits for the Bats.
