LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Indianapolis pounded out three runs in the fifth and five in the seventh on their way to an 8-5 victory over Louisville before a crowd of 7,409 Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
The Indians improve to 41-46 on the season and 20-25 on the road, while the Bats fall to 48-39 overall and 24-20 at home. The win ends the Tribe's four-game losing streak as well as the Bat's four-game winning streak.
Walks by 3B Neil Walker and 1B Craig Wilson were the key in both of the Indians big innings.
Following an RBI single by LF Nyjer Morgan in the third, Walker and Wilson each drew RBI base-on-balls to knot the score at three. The duo then sparked the offensive outburst in the seventh, scoring the Tribes first two runs after each drawing a two-out walk.
Indianapolis scored all five runs in the seventh by way of two-out RBI singles as RF Adam Boeve, 2B Josh Wilson and C Carlos Maldonado each plated runs.
Josh Wilson turned in the Tribe's only multi-hit effort, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. It was the first three-hit contest for Wilson this season and his second multiple run performance.
LHP Juan Perez (0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) picked up the win in his first appearance with the Indians this season. RHP Matt Miller (1.0 IP) pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save of the season, while RHP Jesse Chavez (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO) struck out the 400th batter of his career and picked up his first career base hit.
2B Aaron Herr gave the Bats an early lead by blasting a two-out three-run homer to left in the third inning. His 11th long ball of the season came after CF Chris Dickerson singled to right and RF Rob Mackowiak was intentionally walked.
Dickerson plated the Bats other two runs with a long ball in the eighth. The Louisville center fielder is now batting .333 (11-for-33) with seven runs, two home runs and 11 RBI against the Indians this season
Louisville RHP Matt Belisle (0.2 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 SO) took the loss to drop to 4-1 on the season, while starter Homer Bailey (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 7 SO) did not figure in the decision.
Dickerson (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI), Mackowiak (2-for-4, 1 R) and LF Michael Griffin (2-for-4) all turned in multi-hit performances for the Bats.
Wednesday evening's tilt marked the sixth of 21 straight against International League West Division opponents. From June 27 through July 20, the Tribe is scheduled to battle Columbus 11 times, Louisville six times and Toledo on four occasions.
The teams finish up their four-game series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Ty Taubenheim is scheduled to start for the Indians, while RHP Justin Mallett is expected to get the nod for the Bats.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
