Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Ottawa Lynx in the second game of a four-game series from Lynx Stadium (6:05 p.m.). The Herd held onto a 7-6 victory in the series opener last night for their third straight road victory. On the hill for the Bisons tonight will be LHP Jason Stanford. At 3-1 on the year, Stanford will be looking to bounce back from his first loss of the season last Friday against Rochester. Ottawa will counter with RHP Zach Sergovia.
VS. OTTAWA: The Bisons are 4-1 against Ottawa this season. The Herd opened up the 2007 season against the Lynx in Buffalo, April 9-12, and won three of four games. Buffalo now has a 91-57 edge on Ottawa since 1998. That's the most wins the Herd has against any other team since rejoining the International League.
SEVEN-YEAR STANNY: LHP Jason Stanford is the only player in the Modern Era to appear with the Bisons in seven consecutive seasons. The southpaw began his Herd career in 2001 and in 60 games since, has gone 23-12 with a 3.45ERA. He currently ranks tied for 5th (RHP Tim Drew) in the Modern Era in wins. With his first strikeout today, he will move past RHP Jeremy Guthrie for sole possession of 3rd place in strikeouts (currently 260).
LIGHT UP THE BOARD: The Bisons are the highest scoring team in the International League with 193 runs scored (5.5 runs per game). It's been the long ball of late as well. With six home runs in the last two games, the Bisons now have the most homers in the IL (33). The team is also second in team batting average (.276) and third in stolen bases (42)
TRIPLE CROWN: Ryan Mulhern leads the Bisons in all three triple crown categories. After his four hits last night, he has a .331 average (8th in the International League), eight home runs (T2nd in IL) and 28RBI (1st in the IL). The slugger also leads the Herd in doubles (10-T6th in the International League), extra-base hits (19, T1st in IL) and slugging percentage (.636, 2nd in IL).
ON A TEAR: Outfielder Brad Snyder has hit in four straight and 11 of his last 14 games. During that longer stretch, he has averaged .348 (16-46) with four doubles, a triple, two home runs and 10RBI. Since April 27, Snyder has raised his average from .195 to .276 and his slugging percentage from .268 to 448.
SPEED TRAP: Catcher Mike Rose is the International League's top catcher, having thrown out 63% (10-16) of would-be base stealers. The switch-hitter is also 8 for his last 15 at the plate, good for a .533 batting average.
