Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rallied with six unanswered runs, knocking off Norfolk 6-5 Wednesday night at Harbor Park.

The Tides jumped out to an early lead in the contest, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Tike Redman walked and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Cervenak, and Luis Montanez singled and scored on an error.

Norfolk extended their lead to 5-0 in the third inning, collecting four hits in the inning off of former Tide Eric Junge (1-0). Tike Redman led off the inning with a triple into right-center field, and came around to score one out later on a single by J.R. House. Mike Cervenak then followed with another triple that scored House, and Terry Tiffee lofted a sacrifice fly into left field to give the Tides a 5-0 lead.

The Yankees began their comeback in the 4th inning, pulling within 5-1 on an RBI single by Angel Chavez. Scranton added another run one inning later, as Andy Phillips singled and scored on a two-out single by Kevin Thompson.

Tides reliever Francis Beltran (0-3) replaced starter Rob Bell to open the sixth inning, but the Yankees greeted Beltran with five hits in the frame to take the lead. With one out, Kevin Reese started the rally with a single, and former Tide Chris Basak followed with a triple into center field to pull the Yankees within 5-3. Andy Phillips then reached on a bad hop single that scored Basak to pull Scranton within a run, and a groundout by Eric Duncan moved runners to second and third. Phillips then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game, and Kevin Thompson lined a single to left field to put the Yankees up 6-5.

Former Tide Tim LaVigne allowed just one hit in his Yankees' debut, and Edwar Ramirez struck out four over the final two innings to pick up his first save of the year.

The Tides and Yankees continue their five-game series with a 12:15 contest Thursday afternoon. Kurt Birkins (0-1, 4.15) takes the mound for the Tides against right-hander Tyler Clippard (3-2, 2.79).
