Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This evening, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the fourth game of a four-game home-and-home series at Frontier Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking to earn the series split after an 8-0 shutout over the Red Wings yesterday afternoon. On the mound for Buffalo will be LHP Rafael Perez. The Bisons are 4-0 this season when Perez starts. The southpaw is coming off his best outing with seven strong innings against Columbus on Thursday. Rochester will counter with LHP Dave Gassner.
LIGHT UP THE BOARD: The Bisons are the highest scoring team in the International League with 180 runs scored (5.5 runs per game). Buffalo is one of only two teams who have yet to be shutout this season (Richmond). The team is also third in stolen bases (42) and team batting average (.268) and tied for fifth in home runs (27).
POWER BAT: Ryan Mulhern singled in three trips yesterday to continue his six-game hit streak .381 (8-21). Mulhern also leads the Bisons in doubles (10-T3rd in the International League), home runs (7 -T4th in the IL), RBI (26 2nd in the IL), extra-base hits (18, T2nd in IL) and slugging percentage (.618, 2nd in IL). He is second on the team with a .318 (35-110) batting average.
ON AND BEHIND THE PLATE: Catcher Mike Rose has hit .545 (6-11) in his last three games, raising his season average to .253. The backstop has done great work behind the plate as well. Rose leads all International League catchers, having thrown out 60% (9-15) of would-be base stealers.
THE FRANCHISE: Outfielder Ben Francisco has hit in five straight games at a .473 (9-19) clip. The stretch has raised his season average to .333, which is tied for the fourth-highest mark in the International League. Francisco has also drawn 14 walks (T2nd on the Bisons) for the fifth-highest on-base percentage in the IL (.417).
THRUWAY SERIES: The Bisons are currently second in the 2007 Thruway Cup Series standings. Rochester (5-1) leads the series with Buffalo (4-4) two games back. Syracuse (2-6) is in third place, four games behind the Red Wings.
