TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons open up a four-game home-and-home series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons (7:00 p.m. first pitch). The first two games of the set will be at Lackawanna County Stadium before the series shifts to Buffalo on Sunday. The first two games will also close out the Bisons' season-long 10-game road trip. The Herd is 5-3 so far on the trip after taking three of four games from Columbus. Tonight, the Bisons will have LHP Brian Tallet on the mound. Tallet is looking to bounce back from his shortest outing of the season as he allowed six runs (five earned) in 3.2 innings of work in Toledo on Sunday. Tallet will be up against fellow southpaw, Mike Bacsik. The former-Bison earned a no-decision on Sunday, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings against the Clippers.
VS. RED BARONS: The Bisons are 5-5 so far this season against the Red Barons. After the Herd took three of four in Buffalo, May 3-6, Scranton/W-B won three games of a four-game home-and-home series, June 28-July 1. The teams then split a two-game series in Scranton/W-B, July 6-7. Overall, the Red Barons have the slight lead in runs scored, 49-45.
9TH INNING MAGIC: For the second straight night, the Bisons erased a 9th-inning deficit to win a game. Buffalo trailed Columbus 2-1 Thursday before Ramon Vazquez and Mike Kinkade hit back-to-back two-out RBI-singles. On Wednesday night, the Herd trailed 7-5 before Ryan Ludwick capped a three-run 9th inning with an RBI-single. Buffalo won that game 8-7.
LATE SCORERS: The Bisons have now outscored their opponents 84-43 from the 8th inning on. The Bisons have won 15 games in their last at-bat this season and are now 18-13 in one-run games.
100 HITS: Bisons' slugger Jeff Liefer picked up his team-high 100th hit of the season last night, doubling home his 65th run of the season. Liefer now has eight extra-base hits (5 2B, 3B, 2HR) in the eight games so far this road trip. Overall, Liefer is 3rd in the IL in average (.321), 2nd in slugging percentage (.596) and 3rd in extra-base hits (47).
ERROR FREE: The Bisons did not commit an error in their four-game series against the Clippers. The Herd has just 74 errors on the season, T3rd in the IL (Rochester, 71). This year, Buffalo is 31-13 in games they don't have an error and 26-29 when they do.
