TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Rochester Red Wings for a doubleheader at Coca-Cola Field (Game 1: 1:05 p.m.). The teams will play two because of a rainout on April 30. Last night's 5-3 win snapped the Herd's six-game losing streak. Despite the victory, Buffalo was officially eliminated from the 2012 post season last night because of wins by Lehigh Valley and Pawtucket. The Bisons have just four home games left in 2012.
THRUWAY CUP: The Bisons padded their lead in the 2012 Thruway Series with last night's win. The Bisons are 16-10 this year, 1.5 games ahead of Syracuse (16-13). The Red Wings are in third place with a 7-16 record. The Bisons have won 10 straight games over the Red Wings at Coca-Cola Field.
FOR STARTERS: RHP ZACK WHEELER will start Game 1, his fifth start with the Bisons. The righty allowed three earned runs in 5.1 innings in a defeat to the Yankees on Tuesday. RHP DYLAN OWEN starts the nightcap, his first start since July 5 in Syracuse. Owen has made nine appearances out of the bullpen since then and is 2-3 with a 5.85ERA in 10 total starts this season.
CLOSER: RHP FERNANDO CABRERA now stands atop of the Bisons record books. Cabrera recorded his 30th career save for Buffalo, the most in the team's modern era. The reliever was also named to the Bisons "ËAll 25 Seasons Team' last night and leads all modern era Herd relievers with 132 games pitched and 228 strikeouts. His strikeout total is also 5th among ALL modern era pitchers.
PASCUCCI: OF VALENTINO PASCUCCI slugged his team-leading 16th home run of the season last night and his 54th career Bisons home run (5th in modern era). Pascucci also has a team-high 60RBI this year. He has 188RBI in his Bisons career, the 6th most in the modern era.
ROSTER MOVES: The Mets announced that they have recalled OF LUCAS DUDA. He hit .260 with three home runs and eight RBI in 25 games for Buffalo. New York also announced that INF/OF JORDANY VALDESPIN has been optioned to Buffalo. In 34 games with the Herd this season, Valdespin has averaged .289 (39-135) with five home runs, 19RBI and eight stolen bases.
METS UPDATE : The Mets (58-69) picked up a 3-1 win over Houston on Saturday. Former Bisons RHP R.A. DICKEY allowed just one run in seven innings for his 16th win of the season. INF JUSTIN TURNER hit his first home run of the season. The Mets host the Astros for the rubber match of their three-game set today at 1:10 p.m.
