ROCHESTER RED WINGS (67-68) vs. BUFFALO BISONS (63-72)

TBD vs. RHP DYLAN OWEN (4-9, 6.05)

ROADTRIP DOUBLE DIP: The Rochester Red Wings today play a doubleheader at Buffalo (Mets), continuing a 5-game series and roadtrip that started with a 5-3 loss in yesterday's opener. The Red Wings trail International League Wild Card-leading Lehigh Valley (Phillies) by 5.5 games with 9 to play. After 4 with Buffalo and an offday Wednesday, the Red Wings return home Thursday for a 2-game set against the same Bisons.

a All but one of Rochester's final 9 games can be seen on Time Warner Cable Sports (TWCS) Channel 26. The lone exception is September 1, when Syracuse University opens its football season against Northwestern University.

a The Wings are 8 games into a stretch of playing their final 17 contests against IL North opponents and they are 2-6 thus far. Rochester is just 27-44 against its division rivals overall. The Wings went 40-24 outside the IL North.

BAD TIME FOR A SKID: The Red Wings have lost 2 straight, 4 of their last 5, and 7 of their last 9, falling below .500 for the first time since July 31, when they were 55-56 after a 10-8 win in 12 innings at Columbus (Indians).

a The Red Wings in 2012 are looking for their first winning season since the 2008 club went 74-70. Rochester needs to win 6 of its final 9 games to finish above .500.

a Rochester is 8-12 since their season-best 7-game winning streak July 29-August 5. Despite the recent downturn, the Red Wings are still 47-38 since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 on May 28. Going back further, Rochester is 53-45 beginning May 15.

IMPROVEMENT: With 67 wins, the Red Wings have already eclipsed their win total from both of the previous 2 seasons, besting their 49-95 record from 2010 and their 53-91 mark from 2011. Rochester needs 4 wins in their final 9 games to surpass their 2009 win total of 70.

LET'S PLAY TWO: The Red Wings today are playing their 6th doubleheader. They are 1-1-3 in their previous 5, the lone doubleheader sweep coming vs. Buffalo on May 5 with 2-1 and 5-0 victories. Rochester was swept in an April 26 doubleheader vs. Syracuse (Nationals).

a It must be noted that the Red Wings also played the completion of a suspended game with Columbus (Indians) on June 4 and then a 7-inning game immediately after. The Wings won both of those games.

NOT A COCA-COLA CLASSIC: The Red Wings yesterday lost their 10th straight game at Coca-Cola Field. There were last victorious here in the 2nd game of an April 19, 2011 doubleheader, a 2-0 triumph in 7 innings thanks to Trevor Plouffe's first-inning 2-run homer.

a Rochester is 5-20 at Coca-Cola Field since the start of the 2010 season.

a The Red Wings have won just 2 of their last 5 road games, but they have still won 9 of their last 12 away from Frontier Field and 13 of their last 20 outside of Rochester. They are 25-33 in true road games overall.

a The Red Wings have just 3 games remaining at Frontier Field, where they are 42-35. The 42 wins along Morrie Silver Way are the club's most since going 46-26 in 2008. The Wing host Syracuse (Nationals) on Labor Day, the final day of the regular season.

A BAD RUN: The Red Wings have scored just 9 runs in their last 5 games and 18 runs in their last 7 contests. In that 7-game span, the Red Wings have been shut out 3 times and held to one run once. They have been held to 3 runs or less in 10 of their last 13 contests, a stretch that began August 13. The Wings have scored 90 runs in 24 games in August, an average of 3.8 per game.

a The Red Wings are batting .232 (191-for-824) in August, their lowest average of any calendar month, slightly below April's .236 average (175-for-743). The Wings, however, have hit 21 home runs in August, the 4th most in the IL in that time and 2 behind leaders Columbus, Durham (Rays) and Empire State (Yankees).

a Chris Parmelee leads the IL with 8 homers in August.

PERFECT TEN: Esmerling Vasquez today goes for his 10th win, which would give him the most in one season by a Red Wing since Philip Humber and Francisco Liriano both posted 10 in 2008. Vasquez leads current Wings in wins and is tied for the overall team lead with Liam Hendriks, who is now with Minnesota.

a The Red Wings have 23 different pitchers with at least one win, which is a franchise record for a single season.

DOING ITS PART: The Red Wings' bullpen has allowed only 5 runs (4 earned) in 20.1 innings in the last 5 games for a 1.77 ERA in that time. Rochester relievers have a 3.59 ERA (205 ER/514.0 IP) overall. The bullpen currently consists of only 2 pitchers who started the season with the Red Wings: Jeff Manship and Anthony Slama. The other 5 started the year with Double-A New Britain.

CUP RUNNETH OVER: The Red Wings are in the midst of the hotly-contested battle for the Thruway Series Cup presented by Hillside Family of Agencies, the 3-team race for the best record in western New York among Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. Here are the current standings:

Rank Team Record Winning %

1. Buffalo 16-10 .615

2. Syracuse 16-13 .552

3. Rochester 7-16 .304
