TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons will look for the two-game series sweep of the Ottawa Lynx at Dunn Tire Park (6:05 p.m. first pitch). Last night, infielder Joe Inglett homered as part of a seven-run 5th inning that gave the Herd the 9-5 win in the series opener. The victory was Buffalo's 10th in their last 13 home games. Looking to add on to that, Bisons' manager Marty Brown will turn to RHP Jeremy Guthrie. Guthrie is the team's leader in wins (7) and innings pitched (77.1) and will be looking to bounce back from a loss on Monday against Durham. He'll be up against Ottawa RHP Matt Bruback, who is also in search of a bounce-back game. Bruback allowed five runs in five innings in a loss against Syracuse on Monday.
FIRST TO 50: The Bisons are the first International League team to reach the 50-win plateau this season. They are also just the third team in all of professional baseball with 50 wins, joining the Chicago White Sox (54-25) and St. Louis Cardinals (50-30). A major reason for the team's success is their 32-15 record at Dunn Tire Park, the best home record in the IL.
VS. OTTAWA: Dating back to 2004, the Bisons have won eight straight games over the Lynx at Dunn Tire Park. The Herd has outscored Ottawa, 66-25, in those games. With a win today, Buffalo would earn their third straight home sweep of the Lynx.
COMPLETE LINEUP: Nine of the 10 Bison batters that played last night scored a run. But touching the plate is nothing new for the Herd, as their IL-leading 489 runs scored are 40 more than the next team (Durham 459) and almost 100 more than the average of the rest of the league (390.07). Buffalo has three of the IL's top six run scorers, led by Jake Gautreau's 57.
DOUBLY GOOD: Bisons' infielder Jake Gautreau collected his team-leading 22nd double last night (4th in the IL). The two-bagger also moved him past Jeff Liefer for the team-lead with 37 extra-base hits (3rd in the IL).
PAINFUL AT-BATS: Two more Bisons were hit by a pitch last night as Brandon Phillips and Ryan Ludwick were plunked. Buffalo batters have been hit an IL-high 65 times this year, 13 more than the next highest team (Durham, 52).
POST GAME CELEBRATION: Following tonight's game, the Bisons will host their annual Independence Eve Celebration with a performance from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus and the largest fireworks show of the year, presented by KeyBank. This season will be the 11th consecutive year the Bisons and BPO has celebrated the holiday together.
