Tonight's Game

Tonight, the Bisons host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Independence Eve at Coca-Cola Field (6:05 p.m.). The Herd swept a doubleheader from the RailRiders last night to improve to 12-3 in its last 15 home games. The Bisons also chopped 1.5 games off their deficit in the IL North, now trailing Syracuse by only 5.5 games.

vs. the RailRiders

Buffalo and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre have split the first eight contests of their 16-game season series. Each club also has a doubleheader sweep as well with the RailRiders completing theirs on April 17. The clubs travel to PNC Field for two more games Friday and Saturday.

Independence Eve

Tonight marks the 20th installment of the great WNY summer tradition of the KeyBank Independence Eve Celebration with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. The event has drawn 350,657 fans since it began in 1995. However, the Bisons team is just 7-12 over the last 19 years with just one win in seven July 3rd games since 2007.

Call me Esmil

RHP ESMIL ROGERS gets the nod, his fifth start and 10th appearance for the Bisons. Since moving to the rotation full time on June 18, the righty is 1-0 with a 3.46 ERA in three starts. Rogers struck out a season-high eight batters last Saturday in a victory in Syracuse. In that outing, he allowed just two runs on four hits in five innings of work.

Calling All Stars

The International League named a trio of Bisons to its 2014 All-Star Team. INF DAN JOHNSON leads the league with 17 home runs and 71 walks and is 2nd with 51 RBI. RHP LIAM HENDRIKS is 6-1 with the 2nd-best ERA in the circuit (2.13). RHP BOBBY KORECKY leads the Bisons with 10 saves to go along with a sparkling 0.60 ERA.

Extra, Extra!

The Bisons have been part of 14 extra-inning affairs, four more than any other team in the International League and twice as many as the team played in all of 2013. Five of the games have come in the last eight days since June 25. Buffalo is 8-6 in extra-inning games this year.

Bisons Bits

INF DAN JOHNSON'S walk-off homer in game one last night was the Herd's first since C MIKE NICKEAS on August 3, 2013 vs. Pawtucket...INF JONATHAN DIAZ leads the IL with 12 sac bunts.

Blue Jays Update

Like the Bisons, the Blue Jays (47-39) won in walk-off fashion Wednesday, 7-4 over the Brewers. Edwin Encarnacion provided the dramatics with his league-best 26th home run of the season in the ninth. Toronto begins a 10-game roadtrip in Oakland tonight (9:05 p.m.).
