TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the second game of a four-game set at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). After a 6-0 win last night, the Herd is now 2-3 on their current eight-game roadtrip. Buffalo travels to Boston on Saturday to square off with the PawSox in the 7th Annual Futures at Fenway Game at Fenway Park.
vs. IRONPIGS: The Bisons are 6-4 against the IronPigs this season. The Herd split a two-game series in Lehigh Valley, August 8-9. With last night's shutout win, the Herd is 3-2 against the IronPigs at home. The Bisons will again travel to Lehigh Valley for the final three games of the 2012 regular season Labor Day weekend, September 1-3.
SCHWINDEN: RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN makes his 16th start with the Herd and his 21st of the season tonight. Schwinden has had three consecutive quality starts, going 3-0 with 0.95ERA striking out 14 in 19.0 innings of work. The righty is 2-0 with a 1.38ERA against Lehigh Valley this season, striking out four in 13.0 innings as a member of the Buffalo pitching staff.
UPPER DEKKER: OF MATT DEN DEKKER hit his second grand-slam in nine days, going 2-3 with a run scored and four RBI as well. He is the first Bisons player with multiple grand slams since 2004 when OF Chris Clapinski hit four slams. den Dekker has hit .306 (11-36) in his last 10 games with seven runs scored and 12 runs batted in. He is now hitting .444 (4-9) with the bases loaded this season, with five runs scored and 12 runs batted in.
LUTZ GO HERD: INF ZACH LUTZ had a base-hit last night, and now has reached base safely in 44 of 56 games. In just 227 plate appearances, Lutz has 29 runs batted in with 32 walks, holding a .412 on-base percentage.
BISONS BITS: With the acquisition of former Bisons C KELLY SHOPPACH, the Mets announced that C ROB JOHNSON has been optioned to the Herd...LHP ROBERT CARSON tossed two shutout innings in relief last night, walking one and striking out one...OF FRED LEWIS has scored at least one run in nine of his last ten games and is 3rd in the IL with 69. He is also tied for 5th in the International League with 21 stolen bases.
METS UPDATE : The Mets (55-61) lost 3-0 to Cincinnati last night in the first of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park. INF RUBEN TEJADA hit his 18th double of the season last night for New York. RHP R.A. DICKEY looks for a major-league best 16th win tonight against Mike Leake and the Reds (7:10p.m.).
