PawSox and Yankees Split Twin Bill

The PawSox and Yankees are back where they started before Wednesday's doubleheader at McCoy. Pawtucket is one game behind the Yankees for the lead in the North after splitting a twin bill. The Yankees won the opener 5-1 and the PawSox took a rain-shortened nightcap 5-2. Rain and lightning halted game two after four and a half innings.

In game one Pawtucket took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a base hit by Jason Repko. For the second consecutive game the Yankees scored 5 runs in the fourth inning. Kosuke Fukudome doubled in 2 runs against fellow countryman Daisuke Matsuzaka. Dice-K took the loss to fall to 0-3.

In the second game the PawSox got a couple of runs in the first. Mauro Gomez (2-2) notched his 73rd RBI. In the third, the red-hot Andy LaRoche crushed a three run homer. He has three homers in his last four games. Former Red Sox reliever and ex-PawSox standout Manny Delcarmen took the loss. Nelson Figueroa (10-4) earnesd the win.

The series continues on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Steven Wright (0-0) faces lefty Justin Thomas (1-1).
