TWENTY TO GO: The Rochester Red Wings tonight play the 2nd game of their 4-game series against the best team in the International League, the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates). The Red Wings have played 124 games thus far, meaning there are only 20 more to go, 11 at Frontier Field. Rochester last night started the homestand by picking up a 3-1 win. Following 3 more with IL Central Division-leading Indianapolis, the Red Wings will close out their 16-game season series with Empire State (Yankees) with a 2-game set Saturday-Sunday. Then it's back on the road for a quick 2-game trip to Pawtucket (Red Sox) Monday-Tuesday.
ROSTER NEWS: Following last night's game, the Minnesota Twins optioned infielder Brian Dozier to Triple-A Rochester and selected the contract of Red Wings shortstop Pedro Florimon. Dozier began the season with Rochester and had his contract selected by the Twins May 7. He batted .234 with 6 homers and 33 RBI in 84 games with Minnesota for his major league debut.
a Florimon, who was claimed off waivers by Minnesota last December, batted .251 with 3 homers and 27 RBI in 83 games with the Wings. He was Rochester's lone representative at the Triple-A All-Star Game July 11 in Buffalo and was recently voted as having the Best Infield Arm in the IL in Baseball America 's 2012 Best Tools survey of league managers and coaches.
a Righthander David Bromberg has also been transferred to Double-A New Britain. Yesterday, catcher J.R. Towles and infielder Michael Hollimon were reinstated from the 7-Day Disabled List.
RED WINGS...FOR THREE!!: A win tonight would get the Red Wings to a season-high 3 games above .500 for the 3rd time. Rochester was also 3 up at 5-2 after a 2-1 win vs. Pawtucket on April 11 and at 59-56 after a 10-9 win in 19 innings at Toledo (Tigers) on August 5. Rochester was last 4 games over .500 on May 14, 2009, when they were 18-14 following a 5-4 win vs. Indianapolis that night.
a Tonight marks the Red Wings' 3rd attempt in the last 9 days to get to a season-best 3 games above .500 once again.

WINNING WAYS: At 63-61, the Red Wings are off to their best 124-game start since 2007, when they were 68-56. The 2011 and 2010 clubs were both 30 games under .500 at 47-77 at this point in the last 2 seasons. The Red Wings in 2012 are looking for their first winning season since the 2008 club went 74-70. Rochester needs to win 10 of its final 20 games to finish above .500.
ROSTER NEWS CONT.: Including Pedro Florimon, the Red Wings have sent 20 players to the Twins, including 8 position players and 12 pitchers. Florimon becomes the 4th player in the Twins organization to make it to the majors after starting the year at Double-A New Britain, joining Darin Mastroianni, Lester Oliveros, and Luis Perdomo.
a The Red Wings have employed the services of 55 players in 2012, one shy of their 2011 total of 56.
DIVERSITY REIGNS: David Bromberg yesterday worked 4.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory, becoming the 23rd different Red Wing to record a win in 2012. The 23 winners are a franchise record for one season, besting the 22 from 1998 and 2004.
a Liam Hendriks leads the team with 9 wins, which is the most for a Red Wings' pitcher in one season since Philip Humber and Francisco Liriano both posted 10 in 2008.
a Eight Red Wings' pitchers have logged exactly one win, including 4 who are no longer with the club (Samuel Deduno, Luke French, Steven Hirschfeld, and Daryl Thompson).
BEING BULLISH: The Red Wings bullpen has allowed just 4 runs in its last 29.0 innings (6 games), good for a 1.24 ERA in that time. Of note are Bobby Lanigan, who has worked 9.1 consecutive scoreless innings in his last 4-plus appearances, and Caleb Thielbar, who has tossed 8.2 straight scoreless innings in his last 5 outings. David Bromberg had worked 10.1 consecutive scoreless innings before being transferred to New Britain after last night's game.
HOMER HAPPY: The Red Wings have hit a league-high 14 home runs in 13 games in August, 2 ahead of Buffalo (13 games), Empire State (14 games). and Louisville (13 games). Matt Carson hit his 14th home run yesterday vs. Indianapolis, a 2-run shot in the 4th that proved to be the difference.
IS THIS GUY FOR REAL?: Chris Parmelee has 11 home runs in his last 19 games beginning July 26, the most in the IL in that time and 5 ahead of the next closest player: teammate Matt Carson. His 23 RBI in that same span are the most in the IL as well, 6 ahead of Syracuse's (Nationals) Carlos Rivero.
a The Wings have had 19 different players hit at least one home run. The only player on the current roster who hasn't homered is Ray Chang. With 15 already, Parmelee's next homer will give him the most in one season for a Red Wing since Brock Peterson clubbed 19 in 2010. The 2011 high was 15 by Jeff Bailey, Dustin Martin, and Trevor Plouffe.
