Today's Game:
The Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the final game of a four-game series at NBT Bank Stadium (12:00 p.m.). The Herd is looking for the sweep after winning a pair of one-run games yesterday. Following today's game, the Bisons will travel to Lehigh Valley for a four-game series with the IronPigs.
Bisons vs. Syracuse
The Bisons are 3-2 against Syracuse this year. The Chiefs swept a rain-shortened series at Coca-Cola Field, April 8-9. With the Herd's three victories this week, the road team is now 5-0 in this matchup in 2013.
Brooms!
Today, the Bisons can pick up their first four-game sweep since June 24-27, 2011 when they took four straight from Norfolk. The last time the club swept a four-game set on the road was the IL Champion 2004 Bisons, who won four straight in Pawtucket, August 16-19, 2004.
What Brown does for us
With one more win, MARTY BROWN can tie Terry Collins for the 2nd-most managerial wins in the modern era. Brown is now just nine victories shy of being the Herd's winningest manager since 1985.
Start Me Up
RHP EDGAR GONZALEZ will make his Bisons debut today. Claimed off waivers (Houston) at the start of the season, the righty allowed two runs in 3.1 innings in a pair of relief outings for the Blue Jays before being designated for assignment at the end of last week.
At the Top
INF JIM NEGRYCH'S extended his hit streak to eight games to begin the season. Negrych has posted a .500 batting average in 2013 that leads the International League and is tied with Sacramento's Stephen Vogt (Triple-A, PCL) for the best mark in baseball. Negrych also leads the IL with a .552 on-base percentage.
Bisons Bits
The Bisons will use their eighth different starter today in just their 12th game of the season...OF MIKE McCOY has played five different positions in his six starts this season (2B, 3B(x2), SS, LF, RF)...Nine different Bisons hitters have driven in at least four runs this season. INF ANDY LaROCHE leads the team with eight RBI...RHP NEIL WAGNER and LHP JUAN PEREZ each earned a save yesterday. No opposing pitcher has earned a save against the Bisons this year.
Toronto (6-9) were shutout by the White Sox last night, 7-0. Former Bisons INF MUNENORI KAWASAKI was a perfect 2-2 with a walk at the plate. RHP RAMON ORTIZ made his Toronto debut and allowed two runs in 3.1 innings. The Blue Jays host the White Sox tonight at 7:07 p.m.
