Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight the Buffalo Bisons take on the Pawtucket Red Sox in a doubleheader from Dunn Tire Park (5:35 p.m.). With Wednesday's win, Buffalo is 1-0 on their final homestand of the regular season (7 games). On the hill today will be LHP John Koronka and RHP Jeff Harris. Koronka is coming off a five-inning victory over Ottawa last Saturday, while Harris won his last start on August 10 against Ottawa. Pawtucket will counter with RHP David Pauley and RHP Davern Hansack.
vs. THE PAWSOX: The Bisons are 9-3 against Pawtucket this year, with victories in the last nine games played. The last time these teams squared off for two games in one night was May 5. That night, Buffalo completed a historic comeback as they won the first game 15-14, despite trailing 14-6 in the bottom of the ninth. The Herd went on to win game two, 5-0.
LET'S PLAY TWO: The Bisons are 8-6 in doubleheaders this year, with three sweeps. Buffalo collected sweeps April 15 in Columbus and June 20 and July 23 at home against Louisville and Syracuse respectfully. The May 5 sweep of Pawtucket was not technically a doubleheader because game one was the completion of a suspended game from April 23.
IL BATTING RACE: Rochester's Jose Morales is back in front in the see-saw IL batting race. Morales (.323) is two points ahead of Buffalo's Ben Francisco (.321). The last Bison to win a batting championship was Mark Ryal, who hit .334 in 1990 in the American Association. Francisco won the NY-Penn League batting championship in 2002 with a .349 average in 58 games.
DOUBLES DUTY: Ryan Mulhern collected his 35th double Wednesday night, which ties him with two others for the 4th-most in a single season in the Bisons Modern Era (Jhonny Peralta -44, 2004). With a .306 batting average, Mulhern is 7th in the IL while his doubles total is 3rd. He's also T4th in extra-base hits (53), 6th in hits (135) and 6th in slugging percentage (.503).
HOME SWEET HOME: With a win today, the Bisons could clinch their ninth consecutive winning record at Dunn Tire Park. Buffalo is 35-29 at home this year and 854-573 since the park opened in 1988 (.598 winning percentage).
