Durham Bulls News Release

RHP Mitch Talbot and the Durham bullpen kept the Braves in check and Justin Ruggiano paced the Bulls with three hits on the night as Durham knocked off the Richmond Braves, 5-2 on Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. A season-high crowd of 10,902 saw the Bulls increase their lead over Richmond to 1.5 games for the South Division title.

After losing a heartbreaker, 9-8 in the ninth inning last night, the Bulls got on the board early with a run in the first inning on Ruggiano's RBI-double scoring Webber. Richmond tied the game in the top of the third inning, but Durham answered in the bottom half with a pair of runs on Evan Longoria's two-out, RBI-single to make it 3-1.

Richmond got within a run in the top of the sixth inning when Wes Timmons scored from third when a balk was called on Talbot, but Durham answered again with Jorge Velandia's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame. The Bulls added a final tally in the seventh inning on Wes Bankston's RBI-triple scoring Longoria.

Talbot (12-8) picked up the win going six innings allowing only two runs on five hits. Brian Shackelford, Dale Thayer and Jeff Ridgway followed with three scoreless innings to seal the win for the Bulls.
