Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Scranton/WB Yankees in the final game of a three-game series from PNC Field (7:00 p.m.). The series is up for grabs after the Herd even up the set with a 6-2 victory last night. On the mound for Buffalo will be RHP Sean Smith. Smith picked up his team-leading sixth win of the season with a solid seven-inning effort against Norfolk last Saturday. Scranton/WB will counter with RHP Runelvys Hernandez.
NORTHERN LEADERS: The Bisons have been in first place in the IL North division since May 5 (56 consecutive days). Buffalo is a game up on Rochester and two-games ahead of Scranton/WB Red Barons. The Herd is currently 1-1 in a seven-game stretch against those two teams. After tonight, the Bisons and Wings will play a four-game home-and-home series.
VS. THE YANKS: The Bisons are 3-3 against the Yankees this season, having split a four-game series back at Dunn Tire Park, June 5-8. Since rejoining the International League in 1998, Buffalo has an 11-game lead over Scranton/WB (80-69).
MEET MR. SMITH: RHP Sean Smith leads the Bisons in both wins (6) and strikeouts (47). He is coming off back-to-back quality starts. Smith allowed just two runs in 6.0 innings on June 17 in Norfolk, but ended up on the short side of a 3-2 score. Last Saturday, he defeated the Tides by allowing two runs in 7.0 innings of work. That snapped a personal four-game losing streak.
BULLY FOR THE PEN: The Bisons bullpen came through last night, allowing just a pair of hits in 6.0 innings of work (3BB, 5K). RHP Jeff Harris and Adam Miller each worked two innings of relief in their first action out of the pen this year. RHP Jensen Lewis and RHP Bubbie Buzachero polished off the win by hurling a scoreless eighth and ninth inning respectively.
HOMER HERO: Outfielder Brad Snyder hit his eighth home run of the season last night. That ties him with Luis Rivas and Keith Ginter for second on the team. All-Star infielder Ryan Mulhern leads the Herd with 11 long balls this year.
SMOOTH CRIMINALS: The Bisons have two perfect base stealers still on the team. Infielder Trent Durrington is 11-11 taking the extra base this season. Outfielder Brad Snyder is right behind him at a solid 8-8. Catcher Mike Rose also collected his first steal of the season last night. With 80 stolen bases, the Herd is second to only Indianapolis (105) in the IL.
