Louisville, KY - The Louisville Bats beat the Richmond Braves 3-1 Friday at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats held off a Braves rally in the ninth to gain a split of their four game series.
The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single by Gregor Blanco. Louisville tied the game in the bottom half on a Joey Votto sacrifice fly. The Bats grabbed the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Aaron Herr. Herr knocked in another run in the seventh with a single to make it 3-1. The Braves threatened in the ninth with back to back hits but failed to score.
Bats starter Richie Gardner earned the win. Ryan Baerlocher took the loss. Jared Burton notched a save. Graham Koonce had two hits for the Braves. Ryan Freel had three hits for the Bats.
The Braves face Indianapolis Saturday at 7 PM. Lance Cormier will pitch for Richmond against Bryan Bullington. The Braves return home July 4.
