June 25, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This evening, the Buffalo Bisons host the Norfolk Tides in the final game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). A victory tonight will give the Herd a split of the four-game set. This is the final game of the Herd's eight-game homestand (4-3). On the mound for the Herd will RHP Adam Miller who is expected to throw one inning and then be piggy-backed by LHP Aaron Laffey. The Tides will counter with RHP Jim Johnson.
VS. THE TIDES: This will be the final regular-season series between the Bisons and the Tides in 2007. After seven games, Norfolk holds a one-game lead over Buffalo this season (4-3). Since rejoining the International League in 1998, the Bisons have not lost a season series against the Tides. The Herd is 49-28 against Norfolk since 1998.
MILLER TIME: RHP Adam Miller will get his first start tonight since May 12. Miller was placed on the DL with a bruised ligament in the middle finger of his throwing hand on May 28. Before the injury, the Indians top pitching prospect was 4-1 with a 2.45ERA in seven starts (44.0IP, 37H, 12ER, 14BB, 39K). His 39 strikeouts led the Indians system before he was injured.
HE'S NO JOKE: This will be LHP Aaron Laffey's eighth game of the year. After receiving the loss in his first three starts, Laffey has been unstoppable. He's won four straight, posting a razor-thin 0.69ERA this June (26.0IP, 16H, 3R, 2ER, 3BB, 23K). With another winning decision, Laffey would tie RHP Sean Smith's five-game win streak from earlier this season..
CALL THE COPS: As a team, the Buffalo Bisons went 5-5 in stolen bases last night. Trent Durrington lead the team with three steals, while Luis Rivas and Jason Cooper followed with one each. All five stolen bases yesterday were by runners who eventually scored. Buffalo is tied for second in the International league with 76 stolen bases on the year so far.
A-HAAD OF THE PACK: Catcher Yamid Haad has the team's longest active hit streak at six games (.348, 8-23).
NORTHERN LEADERS: The Bisons have been in first place in the IL North division since May 5 (52 consecutive days). The Herd holds a half game lead on hard-charging Rochester, who has won seven of their last eight.
