Today's Game
This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the final game of a three-game series. Following the series, the Herd will have a three-day break for the AAA All-Star Game before heading to Allentown, PA to take on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for a four-game series July 12-15. Buffalo will then play host to the Norfolk Tides and Durham Bulls July 16-22. The last time the Bisons played the two teams was April 20-25.
Last Game: BUF 4, SYR 2
LHP Thomas Pannone made his Triple-A debut on Saturday, giving up both Chiefs' runs in six innings of work. Pannone also surrendered seven hits while striking out six on the night. The Herd had four players with two hits apiece in the victory including OF Anthony Alford. Alford hit his fourth home run of the season in the 4th inning to tie the game at two. LHP Jose Fernandez collected the win, his first ever Triple-A win.
Syracuse (9-4)
The Bisons and Chiefs last played on June 29-30, July 1 with Buffalo taking the last game to salvage the series. Following this series, the two teams will meet again in Syracuse for a four-game series August 31, September 1-3 to finish out the 2018 season. With two hits on Saturday, INF/OF Darnell Sweeney is now batting .393 (11-28) in 8 games against the Chiefs this season.
Today's Starter: RHP Chris Rowley
RHP Chris Rowley takes the hill today in the series finale. The righty is 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts against the Chiefs this season (13.0 IP). In his last start against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Rowley went five innings in the loss.
Brandon Cumpton
RHP Brandon Cumpton picked up his first save of the season on Saturday. The righty has now tossed two scoreless innings since joining the team on July 5th. This was also Cumpton's second save in his professional career. His first save came last season while pitching for Altoona (AA).
Gio Urshela
INF Gio Urshela was 2-4 in Saturday's win. The infielder is hitting .429 (3-7) in two games for the Herd since being sent down by the Blue Jays. Urshela has now collected 15 hits in 13 games in Triple-A this season (.341 AVG) as he began the year in Columbus (CLE).
Transactions
C Michael De La Cruz was placed on the Disabled List on Saturday retroactive to July 5th, while LHP Tim Mayza has been recalled by Toronto on Sunday.
Bisons' Bits
Every Bisons' batter reached base at least once on Saturday, this last occurred on July 1 in Syracuse...The Bisons' have had 37 different pitchers appear in a game this season, 12 have made their Triple-A debut (5 started in first appearance)...By picking up the win on July 6th, RHP Sean Reid-Foley tied his career-high in wins (10) and accomplished this in only 17 starts.
Blue Jays Update
Toronto (41-47) dropped the second game of the series against the New York Yankees with a 8-5 loss. Ex-Bison OF Kevin Pillar hit one of the three Blue Jay long balls in the defeat. LHP Ryan Borucki heads to the hill this afternoon to face RHP Domingo German. The Jays are off on Monday before heading to Atlanta for two games and Boston for four.
