Louisville Bats News Release

TODAY'S GAME: The Louisville Bats and Toledo Mud Hens meet in the final game of the first half of the season Sunday at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats look to avoid being swept by the Mud Hens for the first time this season with right-hander Keury Mella set to make his 2018 Bats debut. Last night, Louisville trailed 2-0 early on, tying the game 2-2 on a two-run hit by the red-hot Phillip Ervin , before ultimately losing 5-2 and losing their second straight game to Toledo.

AGAINST TOLEDO: Louisville and Toledo meet for the sixth of eight series this season, and the third of four at Louisville Slugger Field. During their last matchup, a four-game series at Fifth Third Field from June 28-July 1, the Bats dropped the first couple before winning the final 2 games. For the overall season series, TOL has outscored LOU 89-76 across 18 matchups, outhomering them 26-11. It's the third time in the last 4 seasons that the Bats and Mud Hens will meet in the final series before the All-Star Break.

P.E. IN JULY IS SWELTERING: Outfielder Phillip Ervin went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, accounting for all of Louisville's runs batted in for the second straight game. He also registered the only multi-hit game for the Bats on Saturday.Ervin is batting .400 (10-for-25) in 6 July games with 3 runs, one double, one triple and 2 home runs, with 8 RBI and 4 walks.

BAILEY SET TO PITCH SUNDAY: Right-hander Homer Bailey , still on Major League rehab assignment, is expected to pitch out of the bullpen for Louisville in its final game before the All-Star Break. The last time Bailey pitched out of the bullpen at any level was actually with Louisville on rehab assignment on August 10, 2010 at Toledo.

HERE COMES THE SUN: Today's game will be the first day game the Bats have played in since June 20 in a 12:00 home game vs. the Durham Bulls, a game which Louisville won 9-6 in a rain-shortened game that lasted 8 innings. LOU owns a 7-12 record in day games this season.

FANTASIA: The Bats look to avoid the brooms today as Toledo goes for the series sweep. Louisville has not been swept since May 15-17 at Durham, dropping all three games in that series. The Mud Hens last swept the Bats in a series from August 1-3, 2017, with Toledo taking all 3 games in a series at Louisville Slugger Field.

HEY NOW, YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR: The Louisville Bats are expected to have 2 representatives in the Triple-A All-Star Game this Wednesday in Columbus: right-handed closer Kevin Quackenbush and outfielder Mason Williams , who was added to the IL Roster on Saturday. Right-handed reliever Tanner Rainey was also selected as an IL All-Star, but is currently with the Cincinnati Reds.

THE END OF THE BEGINNING: Sunday's game marks the final game before the All-Star Game for Louisville. Since 2008, the Bats are 6-4 in the last game to close out the "first half", defeating the Charlotte Knights at home by a 5-4 score last season the day before the break.

L=50: Saturday marked the Bats' 50th loss of the 2018 season, falling to 34-50. Last season, the Bats were 33-50. In 2016, LOU did not suffer its 50th loss until the 100th game of the season, starting off with a 50-50 record.
