Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The IronPigs' home walk-off streak was stretched to four games on Sunday as the Pigs swept the Red Wings with an 8-6 victory. With the win, the IronPigs maintain their IL North lead and enter the All-Star Break with a 52-36 record.
With two outs in the ninth inning, Danny Espinosa knocked in two runs on a single to tie the game at five and send it to extras for the third straight game.
Down to their final strike, and trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the 10th, leading All-Star vote-getter Joey Meneses singled off of the wall in right field to send the Pigs into the break on a four-game winning streak.
After Rochester took an early lead with a run in the first inning, the Pigs quickly answered on a Mitch Walding two-run home run. The Pigs' offense struggled from there against Fernando Romero as the right-hander retired 14-straight batters, and 19 of the next 20.
While Pigs' offense went silent, the Red Wings were able to push across a couple of runs to regain the lead against Tom Eshelman. Jordan Pacheco led the fifth inning off with a double before Leonardo Reginatto brought the run home with a two-run home run. Rochester chased Eshelman out of the game in the seventh inning by stringing together a pair of two out hits to plate two more runs.
Out of the pen, Tyler Gilbert recorded a perfect four outs, while Pedro Beato tossed two innings, allowing only the free extra-innings runner to score in the tenth.
The Pigs have the next three days off for the Triple-A All-Star Break. Meneses, Cole Irvin and Enyel De Los Santos will head to Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio to represent the IronPigs in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday. The Pigs will return home for the start of a four game series with Buffalo on Thursday.
