Buffalo Bisons News Release
The New York Mets today announced that they have acquired OF JORGE PADILLA in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. Padilla has been assigned to the Bisons and activated by Buffalo today.
Padilla, 30, hit .330 (61-185) with four home runs and 27RBI in 50 games with Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League this season. He leaves the 51s on a nine-game hit streak and with a .439 (35-57) average in 14 June games.
Padilla made his major league debut with Washington in 2009, playing 29 games with the Nationals. Prior to his promotion on August 5, Padilla played 95 games with Triple-A Syracuse and led all full season minor leaguers with a .367 batting average. Padilla hit .367 (114-311) with 18 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 21RBI, 58 runs scored and 14 stolen bases for this Chiefs. He also led all International League hitters with a .424 on-base percentage, having reached base safely 146 times in 95 games.
Because of his big league promotion in early August of 2009, Padilla fell just 38 plate appearances shy of qualifying for the International League's batting title.
Padilla was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round of the June 1998 draft. He spent one season in the New York Mets system, playing for Double-A Binghamton in 2006. He hit .295 (142-482) with 26 doubles, 10 home runs and 54RBI with the B-Mets.
Padilla hit .120 (3-25) with three runs scored in 29 games with the Nationals last season.
