Biscuits Win Season Finale over Barons

September 7, 2015 - Southern League (SL1)
Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (77-61/39-25) finished off the 2015 regular season on a high note, defeating the Birmingham Barons (69-70/36-34) 3-1 to win the series on Labor Day afternoon at Riverwalk.

Montgomery starting pitcher Chris Kirsch (3-4) was outstanding, striking out nine over six innings of work, allowing four hits and only one run in the season finale. The left-hander got plenty of help from center fielder Dayron Varona, who drove in all three Montgomery runs with an RBI-single in the first, and a two-run single in the fifth, both off Birmingham starter Myles Jaye (12-9).

The Barons made a little noise in the sixth when Nicky Delmonico hit an RBI-ground rule double into left center field to make it 3-1 Montgomery, but could not score any runs after that, as Ryan Garton, Matt Lollis, and Brad Schreiber pitched three scoreless innings out of the pen, with Schreiber notching his 12th save of the year.

The Biscuits will head into their first postseason since 2012 with a victory, and will look to jump out ahead of the Chattanooga Loookouts in Game 1 of the North Division Series with Jaime Schultz (9-5) taking on TBA on Thursday at 6:15 PM.
