Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Fueled by a five-run opening frame, the Biscuits (53-47) salvaged the series finale, defeating the Mississippi Braves (44-55), 5-1, on Sunday at Riverwalk Stadium.

Undefeated at the Double-A level, Mississippi starting pitcher Bruce Zimmermann (2-1) faltered and only recorded one out. Montgomery's Michael Russell spurred the barrage, doubling to start the Biscuits' first inning. The Braves' southpaw walked three consecutive batters and unleashed a wild pitch, scoring Russell.

Dalton Kelly reached base via a fielding error, which plated Nick Solak. Brett Sullivan increased the edge to 4-0, singling home a pair of runs. Montgomery's lead would get as large as 5-0, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Jake Cronenworth.

With run support, Biscuits' starter Brock Burke (1-0) turned in a fantastic Riverwalk Stadium debut. The left-hander allowed only one base runner to reach scoring position and finished with nine strikeouts, which tied a season-high from High-A Charlotte.

Although Mississippi scored a run on reliever Travis Ott in the sixth, the Biscuits' bullpen recovered and kept the Braves off the board for the final three innings.

The Biscuits start a five-game road trip against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at 6:05 p.m. CST on Monday. Sam McWilliams (4-6) will start in the series opener against Jacksonville's Nick Neidert (8-6).

Montgomery returns home on July 28 as the Biscuits host the Jackson Generals for five games. The series includes Star Wars Night and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 28, Bark in the Park, featuring a Biscuits' backpack giveaway, on Sunday, July 29, and Golden Biscuits Monday on July 30. The homestand concludes with Dough Fest on Tuesday, July 31, and Military Wednesday on August 1.
