SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Jamie Shields delivered eight shutout innings as the Montgomery Biscuits blanked the Tennessee Smokies 4-0 at Smokies Park Wednesday night. The win stopped a four-game losing streak for the Biscuits.

Shields needed 106 pitches to throw eight innings, matching his stay from his last start on August 5. The righty allowed only four hits -- all singles -- and allowed only three fly balls to the outfield, two of which were in his final inning. Shields struck out four and walked two, improving his record to 5-5.

Cam Smith finished up for the Biscuits, throwing a scoreless ninth.

Offensively, the Biscuits scored their runs one at a time.

In the first inning, Johnny Raburn reached on a fielder's choice, then went from first to third on a pickoff attempt gone awry. He scored on Elijah Dukes's groundball out.

In the fifth, leadoff man Elliot Johnson singled to score Gaby Martinez. The following inning, Martinez plated Rico Washington with a sacrifice fly.

That at-bat spelled the end for Tennessee starter Clint Goocher, who allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) in 5 2/3 innings.

Reliever Pete Sikaras allowed a run in the seventh when Wes Bankston rifled a two-out single into center field to score Raburn.

It was the Biscuits' seventh shutout victory of the season.

Montgomery takes Thursday off before returning to action on Friday night at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile. In a 7:05 start, Montgomery righty Brian Stokes will throw.
