Knoxville Smokies News Release

Sevierville, Tenn.- It is with great disappointment that legendary rock outfit Lynyrd Skynyrd announces changes in their touring plans for August, including the postponement of the August 13th show at Smokies Park until September 25.

Lead singer Johnny Van Zant, found by Vanderbilt Voice Center to be suffering from "significant vocal cord inflammation and swelling," will be unable to perform several upcoming shows, following doctor's orders for strict vocal rest. Lynyrd Skynyrd is currently rescheduling and postponing several of their planned appearances to allow Johnny the vocal respite he will need.

The band's shows on August 11 in Chillicothe, Ohio and August 16 in Sevierville have already been rescheduled (September 17 and September 25, respectively). Booking agents are working to reschedule other affected dates, which are August 12 in Sedalia, Mo.; August 13 in Springfield, Ill.; August 18 in Dallas; August 19 in Beaumont, Texas; August 20 in Woodlands, Texas and August 21 in Stillwater, Okla. Rescheduled dates for these shows will be announced as they are available through the band's website, www.lynyrdskynyrd.com.

One of the hardest working groups in music today, Lynyrd Skynyrd perform hundreds of shows each year. The band kicked off 2005 by performing on the 47th Annual Grammy Awards and has been touring steadily throughout the year. In September, Lynyrd Skynyrd will share a co-headlining bill with The Allman Brothers Band on five dates.

Tickets purchased for the August 16th show at Smokies Park may be used for the September 25th show. If you can't make the September 25th show refunds will be made through Tickets Unlimited (865) 656-4444 for tickets purchased by Internet, phone, or Tickets Unlimited Outlets. Refunds on tickets purchased at Smokies Park must go through the Smokies Park box office. Refunds on tickets must be completed between August 15th and August 22nd.

The concert will begin at 7:30 with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. at Smokies Park. For more information, call the Smokies office at 286-2300.
