Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - The Montgomery Biscuits beat the Birmingham Barons 6-1 Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium on the strength of Jamie Shields strong performance and a 6-run third inning.

The Biscuits exploded for six runs in the third inning. The charge was led by Jason Pridie and Elliot Johnson, who each hit 2-run doubles. Shawn Riggans hit an RBI double and Pridie scored on a throwing error to account for the other two runs in the inning. The innings would turn out to be all the Biscuits would need for the night.

Jamie Shields put together a solid performance, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out six in eight innings of work. Andy Gonzalez hit a screaming fly ball in the eighth that Scott Neuberger tracked down at the wall to end the inning. Shields improved to 4-5 on the season.

Jeff Niemann made his second appearance for the Biscuits, pitching a scoreless ninth, allowing a double and striking out one.

Barons starter Kris Honel struggled in his four innings of work, allowing at least one runner to reach base in each inning. He allowed six runs, all in the third inning, on six hits and six walks while striking out two. Honel fell to 3-6.

Casey Rogowski led off the fourth inning with his eighth home run of the season.

Saturday, the Biscuits and the Barons will play the second game of this three game series at 7:05 at Riverwalk Stadium on Auburn/Alabama Night. Right-hander Sean Tracey (11-5, 4.21) is scheduled to pitch for Birmingham.
