
Sing Named Topps Southern League Player of the Month for July

MARIETTA, GA - West Tenn Diamond Jaxx first baseman Brandon Sing was named the Topps Southern League Player of the Month for July. The Topps Company of New York, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball, presents the award each month to the top performer in each of the 10 full-season leagues.
Sing hit .366 with nine home runs and 22 RBI in 26 games played during the month of July. The first baseman was among the Southern League leaders in several statistical categories during the month. Sing finished first in home runs (9) and slugging percentage (.732), second in batting average (.366) and RBI (22), third in runs scored (19) and fifth in on-base percentage (.466). For the season, Sing is batting .298 with 23 home runs and 63 RBI in 100 games played. His 23 home runs leads the Southern League, and his slugging percentage of .590 leads the league as well. He also ranks fourth in on-base percentage (.411) and second in extra-base hits (50). Baseball America rates Sing the 15th best prospect in the Cubs' organization. The Cubs selected Sing in the 20th round of the 1999 draft out of Joliet West High School in Illinois.
