Biscuits Have Streak Snapped by BayBears, 4-3

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Mobile BayBears snapped the Biscuits five-game win-streak, holding on for a, 4-3, win in front of 6,282 on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Biscuits jumped in front early, plating the game's first run off BayBears' starter Matt Torra in the first inning. Cody Cipriano singled back up the middle with one out and Fernando Cortez followed with a single to move him to second. Chris Nowak flew to center field, but Cipriano moved to third on the play. He scored to give the Biscuits a 1-0 lead when Jose Lobaton singled into center field.

Montgomery tacked on second run in the second inning Cody Strait led off with a single. Jason Bowers singled behind him to move him to second. Pedro Powell attempted to lay down a sacrifice-bunt, but catcher Orlando Mercado played it to second for an out. Strait arrived at third base, and scored when Pedro Ciriaco threw wildly to first base attempting to complete a double-play.

The BayBears pulled even in the fourth, also chasing Biscuits' spot-starter Mike Wlodarczyk. Bryan Byrne recorded an infield-single with two outs to get Mobile started and Wlodarczyk hit Cyle Hankerd with a pitch to put two aboard. Ricardo Sosa tied the ballgame with a two-run double shot off the wall in right-center field. Wlodarczyk retired following Sosa's double and didn't factor in the decision.

Heath Rollins followed Wlodarczyk and recorded the final out in the fourth as well as a scoreless fifth. However, he surrendered the lead to the BayBears in the sixth. Hankerd doubled to left field with two down and again it was Sosa, this time giving the lead with an RBI single. Rollins (9-11), working in relief for the first time this season, took the loss for Montgomery.

Mobile padded their lead with a run off reliever Ryan Reid in the seventh inning. Again, the rally started with two outs, as Mark Hallberg sent a double down the right-field line. Ciriaco then punched a single through the right-side of the infield and the BayBears led 4-2 as Hallberg scampered in to score.

Meanwhile, Torra (7-11) shook off his early-game struggles and worked effectively and efficiently deep into the ballgame. He earned the win over seven-plus innings. He allowed back-to-back hits in the eighth before his departure and was tagged with a third earned run.

Josh Ellis completed the eighth inning and handed it off to Daniel Schlereth in the ninth. The Biscuits got the first two aboard, but Schlereth ended the threat for his fourth save of the season, by striking out the next three to end the ballgame

Game four of the series is scheduled for 6:05 PM on Sunday night at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Aneury Rodriguez (7-10, 4.67) will make the start for Montgomery against RHP Cody Evans (4-11, 5.97) for Mobile.
