
Diamond Jaxx offense explodes to 20-9 victory over Carolina

JACKSON, TENN. - The Diamond Jaxx (22-20) set a season high, league mark by scoring 20 runs and pounding out 20 hits in a 20-9 win over the Carolina Mudcats (15-27) on Friday night at Pringles Park. Johan Limonta picked up the first five hit game of the season going 5-for-5 in the game with three RBI and three runs scored. Limonta had a single, double and triple in order to start the game and finished a homer short of the cycle. Limonta was one hit short of the Southern League record of six hits in a game. Ezequiel Carrera and Rich Poythress registered three games while Marshall Hubbard, Guillermo Quiroz, Matt Mangini and David Espinosa had two hit outings. Mangini went 2-for-6 at the plate with a three-run homer and four RBI. Mangini has two homers and seven RBI in the last two games. The Jaxx have taken the first two games of the series against Carolina and are now tied for second place, two games out of first place.
The Jaxx 11 run victory was the highest margin of victory this season. The previous mark was set back on May 2nd, in Birmingham as the Jaxx won 14-4. West Tenn plated six runs in the second and third innings and sent five runs across in the sixth frame.
Between the two teams on Friday night, there were 29 runs, six short of the Southern League record of 35. There were 34 hits combined, which was 11 hits shy of the Southern League mark. The two teams combined for 18 extra base hits, which was one shy of the league record 19 extra base hits.
Luis Munoz (5-6) earned the victory for the Jaxx, dealing six innings on Friday night. Munoz allowed three earned runs while walking two and fanning seven. Zach Ward (0-2) lasted just 1.2 before being run from the game. Ward gave up six runs in the outing. The Mudcats used six pitchers in the game, including two position players, outfielder, Carson Kainer and infielder, Justin Tordi.
The Jaxx go for the series win on Saturday at Pringles Park. RHP Dan Cortes (0-2, 7.78) looks for his first victory with the Seattle Mariners organization in game three. LHP Tom Cochran (3-4, 3.36) makes the start for the Carolina Mudcats.
