Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY - On a night scheduled to end with a fireworks show, the Jacksonville Suns (33-19) scheduled some late fireworks of their own, scoring three times in the seventh and ninth innings to turn a close game into a 10-4 laugher over the Montgomery Biscuits (29-21).
Providing most of the entertainment was Montgomery's own Craig Brazell, who doubled home two runs in the seventh and capped off the evening by crushing a two-run homer in the ninth for Jacksonville.
With the loss, the Biscuits fall to 3.5 games behind the Suns for first place in the Southern League's South Division with 19 games to play in the first half.
After Jacksonville took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off of Biscuits starter Tony Peguero, Montgomery was handed the lead back by Suns starter Justin Orenduff in the second inning.
Orenduff loaded the bases with none out on two singles and a walk before throwing two run-scoring wild pitches with Jason Pridie at the plate. One batter later, Matthew Maniscalco lined a sacrifice fly to centerfield to give the Biscuits a 3-2 lead.
In the fourth, however, Montgomery gave the lead back. After a run-scoring groundout from Tony Abreu tied matters at 3, Elliot Johnson's two-out throwing error allowed A.J. Zapp to come home with Jacksonville's fourth run.
The score remained 4-3 in the Suns' favor until the seventh, when a Wilkin Ruan RBI single helped chase Peguero from the game. Two batters later, Brazell greeted reliever Brian Henderson with a booming two-bagger to left-center, increasing the Jacksonville advantage to 7-3.
In the ninth, the Jefferson Davis High School graduate capped off his evening with a two-run roundtripper to rightfield, helping make the debut of new Biscuit reliever Josh Kranawetter an unpleasant one. Andy LaRoche followed with a solo home run of his own to close out the scoring.
Orenduff (4-2) earns the victory, giving up three runs on five hits over six full innings and striking out four. Peguero (5-5) suffers the loss in his worst outing of the season, with the Suns reaching him for seven runs (six earned) on six hits in 6.2 innings. Casey Hoorelbeke recorded the last five outs for Jacksonville to receive his fourth save.
The third game of the five-game series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:05, with Biscuits righthander Jim Magrane (7-3, 2.64) taking the mound against Jacksonville's Heath Totten (3-2, 3.43).
