Big seventh fuels Jaxx

Huntsville, AL (5/29)- The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx came back from a 2-0 deficit for the second straight game, scoring three times in the seventh inning to beat the Huntsville Stars 3-2 before a Memorial Day crowd of 1420 fans at Joe Davis Stadium.

With the Jaxx down 2-0, Huntsville reliever and former Diamond Jaxx left-hander Russ Rohlicek (0-1) walked the first three batters he faced to open up the seventh inning. Chris Walker bounced into a 5-4-3 double play, scoring Adam Greenberg to make it a 2-1 game. With Carlos Rojas at third base and two men out, Gary Cates hit a groundball through the legs of Huntsville SS Ozzie Chavez scoring Rojas to tie the game at two. Nic Jackson then delivered a double to center field, scoring Cates to give the Diamond Jaxx a 3-2 lead.

Carmen Pignatiello picked up the win in relief of Carlos Marmol. Pignatiello (1-1) came on to pitch after a forty-nine minute rain delay in the 4th inning. He pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless and hitless relief, walking two and striking out three. Clay Rapada pitched a scoreless ninth inning to nail down his fifteenth save of the season.

Game three of the five game series takes place on Tuesday night at 7:05 CDT. Left-hander Chris Shaver (2-3 2.96) totes the rubber for the Diamond Jaxx. Huntsville will counter with righty Travis Phelps (0-2 2.81).
