THE LAST GAME-Before a sellout crowd at BellSouth Park, the Lookouts downed the Braves 5-3. The Lookouts are now 19-7 at home this season.

The Lookouts' bats got hot early, as they scored four runs in the first three frames. In the first, Chris Dickerson got it going with a single and then stole second. Noochie Varner kept his hot bat going with a two run homerun. In the second, Luis Bolivar led the inning off with a single. Anderson Machado then stepped to the plate and singled, moving Bolivar to third. Miguel Perez followed with a RBI ground out to the pitcher. The Lookouts put another run on the board in the third, after Dickerson led the inning off with a double down the right field line. Noochie Varner struck again with a single to score Dickerson from second.

The Braves made a comeback with a three-spot in the fourth. The Braves fourth was highlighted by a RBI double off the bat of Barbaro Canizares, bring the score to 4-3. The Lookouts, however, iced the game in the bottom of the fifth as Dickerson and Varner led the offensive charge again. Dickerson led the inning off with a single and Varner followed with a RBI double to put the Braves away. Varner finished the game 3-3 with four RBI.

Lookouts starter Josh Hall picked up his first victory of the season as a Lookout after tossing eight innings, allowing three earned on five hits. He struck out eight and did not issue a walk. David Shafer pitched the ninth and picked up yet another save, bringing his league leading total to 15. Braves' starter Daniel Curtis took the loss after throwing seven innings and allowing five runs on 11 hits.

PROBABLE STARTER: The Lookouts will send LHP Tyler Pelland to the hill for his 11th start of the season. To date, Pelland is 3-1 with a 3.83 ERA. In 47.0 innings pitched this season, he has allowed 29 runs, 20 earned, on 51 hits, while walking 29 and striking out 32. Pelland's 29 walks ranks second highest in the Southern League. The opposition is hitting .288 against him. In his last start on May 24th, Pelland pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits on the way to his third victory of the season.

The Braves will counter with RHP Sean White. In 10 starts this season, White has posted a 2-3 record with a 5.37 ERA. He has allowed 36 runs, 31 earned, on 69 hits, while walking 25 and striking out 38 in 52.0 innings. The league is hitting .321 against him.

NEWS 'N' NOTES:

- The Lookouts have three players in the top 10 in batting in the Southern League; Aaron Herr (.317), Noochie Varner (.311) and Joey Votto (.302).

- Joey Votto is second in the league with 38 runs scored.

- Thanks to stellar work from the Lookouts pen, Chattanooga is 21-0 when leading after eight innings. Closer David Shafer leads the league with 15 saves.

- The Lookouts are batting .288 at home this season and the pitching staff has a home ERA of 2.79 (20-6).

1922 - Baseball is a sport, not a business. That Supreme Court ruling exempted the major league clubs from antitrust laws and interstate commerce rules.

1993 - The Rangers' Jose Canseco tried pitching for an inning. The results were about the same as his actions three days earlier when a ball had bounced off his head into the stands for a home run. Canseco threw 33 pitches, gave up three runs on three walks and two hits. Canseco blew out his elbow and needed season-ending surgery. The Boston Red Sox blew out Texas, 15-1.

1995 - Chris Hammond won a game for Florida. The Marlins pitcher helped his own cause when he became the first pitcher since 1986 to hit a grand slam home run. The Marlins beat the Astros, 9-7.
