Biloxi Shuckers News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - Playing in their third morning game in three weeks, the Biloxi Shuckers (20-12) fell behind early to the Montgomery Biscuits (14-18) in a 10-5 defeat on Tuesday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium. Infielder Dylan Moore continued his hot hitting, recording his seventh multi-hit game in his last 11 appearances.
Montgomery scored against Shuckers' starter RHP Cody Ponce (L, 1-2) in the first inning on a flair to centerfield. In the second, Biscuits outfielder Ryan Boldt hit his third home run of the series, this time with two men on base to give Montgomery a 4-0 lead.
The Shuckers grabbed a run back in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Troy Stokes Jr., but the Biscuits tallied a run of their own in the bottom of the frame, swelling the lead back to four runs. Montgomery chased Ponce in the fourth, scoring three more runs to open an 8-1 lead.
Biloxi chipped away at the Biscuits lead in the sixth. Lucas Erceg reached after a dropped third strike and moved to third when Michael Russell threw the ball into the stands trying to cut down Jake Gatewood. With men on first and second, Moore lashed a double down the left field line against RHP Zach Lee (W, 4-1), driving in two and cutting it to an 8-3 deficit.
Moore sparked the offense again in the seventh. Stokes walked and moved to third on a single up the middle by Erceg, bringing up the Shuckers first baseman with two outs. Moore laced a ball over the head of Biscuits' centerfielder Nathan Lukes, driving in both runners with his second double of the day to bring Biloxi within three runs at 8-5. Moore finished the afternoon 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI, pushing his batting average to .380 in 23 games with the Shuckers.
RHP Angel Ventura pitched 4.1 innings of relief and allowed his only runs in the eighth inning. Biscuits RHP Kyle Bird (S, 4) kept Biloxi off the board in the eighth and ninth to close out the game.
Biloxi returns to action against the Biscuits on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM CT. The Shuckers are slated to send RHP Zack Brown (1-0, 3.86) to the mound against Biscuits RHP J.D. Martin (1-4, 4.86).
