Mississippi Drops Series Opener to Mobile 5-0

Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves were defeated by the Mobile BayBears 5-0 in the series opener at Trustmark Park on Monday night.

Mobile scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning when Brennon Lund scored from third base courtesy of a wild pitch by Mississippi starter, Kyle Wright.

Mobile added a second run in the top of the third inning after Michael Barash ripped a line drive single to center field, allowing Hutton Moyer to score.

Leading 2-0, the BayBears extended their lead 4-0 in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run RBI single by Riley Unroe. Jose Rojas and Brendon Sanger both scored on the single by Unroe.

Despite the M-Braves loss, Wright recorded a career high, eight strikeouts. The right-hander exited the game in the top of the sixth inning, giving way to relief pitcher, Tyler Pike. Wright finished his night allowing 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, and 8 K in 5.2 IP.

Play was suspended in the top of the sixth inning due to a power outage at Trustmark Park. After a 23-minute delay, play resumed with the BayBears leading 4-0 in the top of the sixth inning. The BayBears added a fifth run to their total in the top of the sixth after Taylor Ward drew a bases-loaded walk which allowed Bo Way to score from third base.

Mobile starter, Luis Pena (1-3, 5.88) earned the win while Mississippi starter, Kyle Wright (1-4, 4.94) suffered the loss. Mobile relief pitcher, Conor Lillis-White was credited with a hold, his second of the 2018 season.

Game two of the five game series between Mississippi and Mobile is scheduled for Tuesday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Trustmark Park. LHP Michael Mader (1-1, 3.43) is scheduled as the Tuesday night starter for the M-Braves. Opposite of Mader on the mound will be Mobile right-hander, Jose Rodriguez (1-3, 3.00).

Tuesday night's contest will feature a Two for Tuesday promotion presented by Polk's Meat Products & WJTV 12 Getting You Answers. Fans can exchange a Polk's Meat Products label at the Trustmark Park Box Office for two tickets for the price of one. Excluding Suite Level and Club Level seats. All hot dogs and 16 oz. soft drinks will also be two for the price one.
