Montgomery Biscuits News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Flo. - Amid hundreds of lightning strikes and a bit of rain, the Biscuits (57-48) won their fourth-straight game and their second-consecutive one-run affair against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (39-64) on Friday night, to close out their five-game series at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, 2-1. Montgomery is now 10-1 at The Baseball Grounds in 2018.
Brock Burke (2-0) made his third career Double-A start one of his best of the season, tossing six scoreless innings and ringing up a season-high 10 batters en route to his second victory. The Biscuits had a good opportunity to provide the 21-year-old left with an early lead in the first with runners at second and third and nobody out, but Nathan Lukes was thrown out trying to score from third on a Mike Brosseau fielder's choice.
Jacksonville starter Kolton Mahoney took it from there, keeping the Biscuits off the board until the seventh, when Brett Sullivan reached on an error by second baseman Justin Twine with one out. Jake Cronenworth then singled up the middle, moving Sullivan to third. Next, Michael Russell climbed in and banged a hard groundball to Twine who dove and took away a base hit, but Sullivan scored to put the Biscuits up 1-0 in the seventh for the second-straight night.
Russell added an RBI-single in the ninth, and although Joe Dunand launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth off Yoel Espinal, the hard-throwing righty still slammed the door to notch his fifth save of the season.
The Biscuits will head back to Montgomery and open up a five-game series against the Jackson Generals on Saturday night when Sam McWilliams (4-6) takes on Taylor Widener (4-5) on Star Wars Night and MAX Fireworks at Riverwalk Stadium at 6:05 PM CT.
The series will also feature Bark in the Park as well as a Biscuits' backpack giveaway on Sunday, July 29, Golden Biscuits Monday on July 30, Dough Fest on Tuesday, July 31, and Military Wednesday and Business Person Specials on August 1.
