
'Birds sweep double dip, win division

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds won their first division title since 2000 sweeping a doubleheader from Oklahoma City Saturday night winning 7-2 and 5-3 at AutoZone Park.
Trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning after a nearly one-hour rain delay Tyler Greene belted his 15th home run of the year to put the Redbirds back on top and send them to the American North division title. Memphis padded their lead in the sixth inning when Brian Barden scored on a double play. Greene drove in three runs in the game two victory with Mark Shorey going 3-for-3. Charlie Manning picked up the in relief and Pete Parise notched his eighth save with a perfect inning of work. Chris Cooper took the loss for the RedHawks allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits in 4.1 innings.
In the first game David Freese put on a show driving in a team season-high six runs. Freese crushed his 10th round tripper of the year, a three-run shot, in the first inning and Memphis never trailed. Freese struck again in the third driving in two runs with a double before finishing the night with a RBI-single in the fifth. Redbirds starter P.J. Walters picked up the win allowing one run on four hits over five innings. Oklahoma City starter Brian Gordon took the loss giving up five runs on six hits in four innings.
Memphis hosts Oklahoma City tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. with the season's final fireworks show to follow. Lefty Evan MacLane will be on the bump for the âBirds and face RedHawks right-hander Elizardo Ramirez.
